Transfering music library to new Vault

Post by ltan854 » Wed Dec 26, 2018 5:39 am

I am considering upgrading my Vault 2 to the new Vault 2i.
Can I tranfer my library from the backup hard drive to the 2i by doing a Restore?

Thanks

I am 100% certain looking at the backups on a Linux box that the restore would work but best to wait for a response from Bluesound support to confim, would be painful having to rip everything again. Personally I would make a copy of the rips to another networked machine...just in case.

I have a Vault 2i and have tested the restore function without any issues.

I hate to admit this is pretty much a requirement when it comes to VAULTs for warranty reasons...

...but we have seen playlists of pure VAULT environments not always restore properly but think we have that resolved now to due to the little know feature that if you actually fill a VAULT hard drive, adding a second VAULT to your network seamlessly adds both VAULT's content to the Local Library...

The real question I have is... "Why?"

The difference in hardware between the 2 models on the VAULT is AirPlay hardware authentication... Keep the VAULT 2 where it is and the money you will spend on a VAULT 2i, buy a POWERNODE 2i and Speakers for the other room.

Vault 2i also features

Bluetooth Connectivity
Two-Way (transmit & receive)

Maybe Tony doesn't know?
Heos AVR w/Dali Rubicon, Lyngdorf MH-2, and B&W PV1D.
Argon SA1 w/Vault 2i, and Minipod Mk2.
1x Pulse Mini 2i, 3x Pulse Flex 2i.

Am I mistaken or does the Powernode 2i which Tony recommends not have this as well?
| Node 2 | Pulse | Pulse Mini x 2 | Pulse Flex 2i | Pulse Flex x 2 | NAD T755 | NAD C 272 | B&W CDM SE |
| Schiit Bifrost Multibit | NAD C 368 | MDC BluOS 2 | B&W 685 S2 | PSB CS500

Gen 2 will act as a Bluetooth speaker.

KriHad is right all 2i will allow for Bluetooth headphones, but give me a pair of towers any day...

Thanks everyone for your input.
To be clear, what I have in mind is to ‘replace’ my Vault 2 with the 2i and transfer my entire library to the V2i without having to rip everything all over again. I’m hoping doing a Restore from my backup hard disk is all it takes. If I read Tony’s response correctly, this is definitely possible because of Vault warranty requirements except that playlists may not restore properly. Well,I don’t have any playlists set up so this is not a factor for me.
I also don’t have another suitable room for listening to music so adding a Powernote 2i and speakers is not a viable option.

You can... and we will be happy to take your money (and may get in trouble form my boss for asking)... but again "Why bother?"

So A PULSE MINI in the kitchen while cooking or PULSE in the bedroom... Again, just asking...

Glad to hear you are enjoying #LivingHiFi
