Cracking sound Pulse Mini 2i

Post by Andre » Wed Jan 23, 2019 12:45 am

last Saturday I bought a Pulse Mini 2i and a Flex 2i. Setting up was no problem. After a few hours I noticed that with some songs there was an occasional cracking on the Mini 2i. This is not the case with the Flex 2i.
The Flex 2i is connected by Wi-Fi. The Mini 2i was connected by wire. When connecting the Mini 2i by Wi-Fi, the cracks were still there.
Every time it is at the same point in the songs.
Example songs:
- Playlist “Easy on Sunday” – Nico & Vinz – That’s how you now
- Playlist “VanVelzen” – The Rush of Life
- Also several songs from Kygo showed this cracking.
I made a recording of the sound, but I can't attach this in the post.
The cracking noise is everytime when at that point in the songs there should be a bass tone. It sounds like a defect woofer, but the strange thing that it's not in every song.

What could bet he problem? I think it is a hardware problem in the Mini 2i.

I also made a ticket for the support team.

Hi Andre,

I have a Mini 2i that I can check your songs from.

What is your source, Tidal Hi-Fi?
What are your sound settings on the Mini?

All songs from Spotity.
Sound settings: wide and a litte more treble and bass.

But what i mention, the Flex 2i, doesn't have the problem. Also the Flex a little more trable and bass

Tried Nico & Vinz – That’s how you know from Deezer w/your sound settings on Mini 2i. Couldn't spot any crackling.

KriHad, thnx for testing.

Yesterday I brought the Mini 2i to the retailer and they did a short check with a BT connection. No problem there.
They are going to do other tests with Wi-Fi and cable.

Yesterday I did my install of my new Soundbar 2i and sub. No cracklings sounds there. :-)

I made a recording of the sound, but cannot upload it.

I think I've got the same problem.. The distortion sounds like 'popping'.

What I found (and you can test):
- only with Spotify (also tested TuneIn radio and Optical In)
- only with de Mini 2i (I've got also a Node2, Flex 2i to test)
- same sound with the second Mini 2i I had from the shop to test
- at every volume, low or high
- with every music genre
- I can not reproduce it. It is random.
- It can come within 5 minutes, but also after an hour. And then again after 5 minutes, but als again after an hour.

After a lot of testing I think the problem is with the treble settings.
When I change the setting from 0 to 4 or something, the popping sound is there.
It doesn't mather which other setting is on or off. Also the popping sound is there when I reset everything and only change treble.

Could you try and set treble and bass to 0?? I don't think bass is a problem, but it does seem to strengthen te problem.

The problem is that you have to listen for about 2 hours to make sure the sound isn't there.
The only difference with my problem is that it is not with the same playlist or something.

Just tried with Spotify instead or Deezer. And had treble to +3. Popping treble is definitely there on Nico & Vinz now. (Assumed Deezer and Spotify mp3 quality would match.)

My Mini is currently at the store where I bought it, so I can't test it.
But the trebble thing could be it!!! When I listened in the store when the employe tested my Mini with a bluetooth connection.....the crackling sound wasn't there. But at the position where it was, i heard a sound like klapping hands, so a trebble sound.
I will share this info with the technisian at the store and with Bluesound.

It looks like a software issue, or a combi between software and hardware. Strange (or better lukely) is that it does not occur with the Flex and Soundbar.
